Doctor in washington d.c. area?

Hi folks,

I just discovered this list (Dx 2/2012) and am being treated at Mayo and also here in the Washington d.c./Maryland area. While I have a local oncologist, I'm curious if there are other members with AL who might have doctors they like.
Thanks,
Peggy

I cannot see your list.

Yes, I live in Pittsburgh and while my doctor consults with the physicians at Mayo and Boston about my case, I have been handled completely locally. He is a specialist and has years of experience working with amyloidosis around the world.

His name is Entezam A. Sahovic and he is the head of transplantation at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, part of the Allegheny Health Network. He is not only a brilliant physician but allows me to partner with him in my care. He is accessible and spends much time working with me at every step. His support staff is also wonderful. I am completely confident in him, the hospital, and the outpatient.

Thank you!

Darcy

Peggy how would you like to meet other patients in your area face to face? I am the facilitator for the next DC area Amyloidosis Support Group meeting that will be held on Sept. 27th, from 9 am to 3 pm at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Vaishali Sanchorawala who comes to us from the Boston University Amyloid Center where she is the Director of the Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation Program. http://www.bu.edu/amyloid/vaishali-sanchorawala-m-d/.

We serve a complimentary breakfast and lunch at the meeting and if you have any special dietary needs, please let me know and I will do my best to meet your request. For more info on the meeting you can go to our website at http://www.amyloidosissupport.org/support_groups/marylandbaltimore.html. I do hope that you will be able to attend. If you would like me to add you to my mailing list so you will receive notifications of future meetings please email me privately at ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■.

Peggy there are a few doctors in the DC area that have experience in treating Amyloidosis. Carol Ann Huff at Johns Hopkins http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/hematology/archive/huff.html probably has the most experience in the area. JH also has a fabulous cardiologist by the name of Dr. Dan Judge who has experience in treating patients with AL as well as familial versions of the disease. The following doctors names have been provided by patients that have been pleased with them. I personally do not know either of these physicians and therefore cannot truly comment about their experience with amyloidosis.

University of Maryland in Baltimore, hematologists include

Ashraf Badros: http://medschool.umaryland.edu/facultyresearchprofile/viewprofile.aspx?id=7500

Aaron Rapoport: http://medschool.umaryland.edu/facultyresearchprofile/viewprofile.aspx?id=5296

There is also a patient who comes to the meeting that had his SCT done at George Washington Hospital several years ago and he is doing very well. I can put you in contact with him if you like. Just let me know.

What local oncologist is managing your treatment and who do you see at Mayo?

Paula

Peggy we are just two weeks away from our support group meeting in Silver Spring MD. Sure would love it if you could come. It would be a great opportunity for you to meet other patients from the area. Email me at ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ if you can come.
